Rexford Whiddon receives 2005 MTNA Distinguished Service Award.

, was awarded the inaugural MTNA Distinguished Service Award during the Awards Brunch at the National Conference in Seattle.

Whiddon, director of major gifts for the Columbus State University Columbus State University is a four-year public liberal arts university located in Columbus, Georgia. The university was established and is administered by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, and is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the  Foundation in Columbus, Georgia, received a master of music degree from the Eastman School of Music Eastman School of Music: see Rochester, Univ. of. , along with a bachelor of music with distinction degree. He also took course work toward a doctor of music degree at Indiana University.

Whiddon's extensive service to MTNA began in 1976 as a member of the Executive Board of the Southern Division. Since that time, he has occupied nearly every role within the association, including president, FOUNDATION president, president-elect, vice president for conventions, national treasurer, national membership chair, Southern Division president, and Georgia MTA president and first vice president. In addition, Whiddon was chair of the Governance Documents Study Committee, served on the National Executive Board, the Board of Trustees board of trustees Politics The posse of thugs who oversee an institution's administration. See Board of directors. , the National Scholarship Foundation Board and the Southern Division Executive Board, in addition to his involvement in numerous committees, including the public relations, nominating and certification committees.

Prior to his appointment at Columbus State University, Whiddon was performing arts advisor/consultant for the Celebrate The Arts! Festival at Callaway Gardens.

For the majority of his career, 1970-1999, Whiddon was at Columbus State University, serving most recently as chair of the Schwob Department of Music. He also was acting chair of the Division of Fine Arts and head of the Keyboard Division during his tenure at Columbus State University.

Whiddon is a member of the National Committee on Planned Giving, the Georg a Planned Givino Council and me Georgia Educational Advancement Council. He also is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda Pi Kappa Lambda is an American honor society for undergraduate students, graduate students, and professors of music. Among his special awards are the 2004 Distinguisned Service Award n Educational Fundraising from the Georgia Educational Advancement Council, the Presser Foundation Scholarship Award and tuition scholarships from Oklahoma Baptist University OBU Mission Statement

Academics
Oklahoma Baptist University was ranked in the top five by U.S.
 and the Eastman School of Music, where he also received a teaching fellowship. Whiddor san honorary alumnus of Columbus State University.

The MTNA Distinguished Service Award is an award to be presented annually to one individual member of MTNA who has made significant and long-term contributions to the organization at a national lever.
