Revere Industries invests in U.S. manufacturing.Revere Revere, city (1990 pop. 42,786), Suffolk co., E Mass., a residential suburb of Boston, on Massachusetts Bay; settled c.1630, set off from Chelsea and named for Paul Revere 1871, inc. as a city 1914. It has a growing retired community and much of Revere Beach, a popular resort area, has been built up with apartment and housing complexes. Industries, Indianapolis, announced it will buy four existing manufacturing companies that make everything from highly specialized auto parts to metal pie pans with the strategy of squeezing out costs and focusing on products that can't be made efficiently overseas. One of the manufacturing companies includes Ross Aluminum Castings, Sydney, Ohio, which makes impellers for diesel engine turbochargers and specialty castings for race cars and trucks. Revere is able to manufacture in the U.S. because its products are too costly to ship from overseas locations or the parts are so specialized that they are best made close to manufacturers that use them. According to the Indianapolis Star, Elliott Archer of Revere Industries predicts that U.S. manufacturers will slow their drive to move production offshore. "The big push to go to China is over," he said. "If the economy holds steady, there are numerous opportunities with these companies, and with the U.S. market." |
