Shares in the Franco-German drugmaker slipped on the news. -- In an exclusive interview, Pfizer's top researcher Peter Corr told the Reuters Health Summit he expects the company's experimental cholesterol drug to be its biggest yet -- perhaps even exceeding sales of the world's top-selling drug, Pfizer's Lipitor. -- Giving a glimpse into Pfizer's intentions on an experimental arthritis drug from Britain's Celltech Group, Pfizer research chief Peter Corr also told the Reuters Health Summit he intends to pursue the drug despite some recent speculation that Pfizer might put it on the back burner. The drug is one of Celltech's highest hopes for success. At today's Reuters Health Summit, a highlight will be the appearance of Ray Gilmartin, CEO of Merck, following last night's announcement of the cancellation of a late stage experimental drug for diabetes. This marks the second disappointment for Merck in two weeks, whose earnings growth has stalled in recent years as five other big-selling drugs lost patent protection.
