The label is currently home to a diverse group of artists including Shimmerplanet, DARREN, and Grace Garland. On his debut disc, single-named, multiple-hyphenate Darren revives the spirit of 1980s British synth-pop. He makes it his own with a dash of boy band married to contemporary spacey spac·ey adj. Slang Variant of spacy. Adj. 1. spacey - stupefied by (or as if by) some narcotic drug spaced-out, spacy unconventional - not conventional or conformist; "unconventional life styles" electronics and solid bouncing beats. As singer, songwriter, primary musician, and producer, Darren whips up an infectiously frothy froth·y adj. froth·i·er, froth·i·est 1. Made of, covered with, or resembling froth; foamy. 2. Playfully frivolous in character or content: a frothy French farce. and positive musical confection con·fec·tion n. A sweetened medicinal compound. Also called electuary. . On a soaring chorus here or an arrangement there ("The Limit," "Pie in the Sky"), Darren evokes the best of Erasure ERASURE, contracts, evidence. His voice is smooth and easy, sailing over the spacious arrangements. Darren is especially adept at production, blending and layering his vocals to build dense beauty ("You Were Loved," "Drowning"), and he demonstrates a knack for experimenting with the formula (the strings-into-beat opening of "You & I"). Charming and danceable, bright and sunny, Anything Is Possible is an irresistible bit of ear candy. |
