Lone Star Medical Products, Inc., announces the availability of its PRO-[Stay.sup.TM] elastic stay hooks. The PRO-Stay is designed for use in surgical procedures where use of nonmetallic non·me·tal·lic

The PRO-Stay is free of metallic or ferrous material, providing an effective retraction alternative for use in surgical environments where imaging, cautery cautery, searing or destruction of living animal tissue by use of heat or caustic chemicals. In the past, cauterization of open wounds, even those following amputation of a limb, was performed with hot irons; this served to close off the bleeding vessels as well as , or laser equipment is in use. When used with the metal-free Lone Star Retractor retractor /re·trac·tor/ (-trak´ter)
1. an instrument for holding open the lips of a wound.

 Ring, the PRO-Stay provides retraction of soft tissue during a variety of surgical procedures.

The PRO-Stay is manufactured from GE Noryl(r) resin and features a semiblunt, 4-mm retractor hook and finger grip molded of one piece for strength and precision. A latex-free silicone elastic tail is attached to the PRO-Stay for use with the Lone Star Retractor Ring. Each sterile, ready-to-use package contains eight PRO-Stays and is packed in a Tyvek(r) peel-pouch for easy delivery to the sterile field sterile field Surgery A 'clean' environment that surrounds an incision, and relatively free of microorganisms, in particular bacteria; the SF is inhabited by the surgeon(s), scrub nurses, and occasionally, physicians in training.
