Brenda Hall Martin, 52, entered the BIC Family Dream Vacation Sweepstakes in May, after reading a write-up in Women's World magazine. Soon after she mailed in her five entries, she traveled to Indiana to visit her daughter at college, and forgot all about the vacation she had entered to win.
"I'm an eternal optimist," said Martin. "I always enter contests and sweepstakes and those kinds of things. The biggest thing I've ever won is a box of chocolates as a door prize, so you could imagine my surprise when I got a call saying I was a winner in this sweepstakes."
As one of three grand-prize winners, Martin is entitled to a 6-day, 5-night stay at any participating Sleep, Comfort, Quality, Clarion, MainStay Suites, Econo Lodge or Rodeway Inn. She also receives a free car rental from Alamo Rent A Car Alamo Rent A Car is a car rental agency. It is based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but has branches across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America, parts of Africa, Europe, and Australia as well as some locations on various Caribbean islands. for the duration of her vacation and $5,000 in cash, to pick up any extra expenses.

While Brenda Hall Martin is originally from Montana, she taught kindergarten for many years at North Pole Elementary School on Santa Claus Lane in North Pole, Alaska, a suburb of Fairbanks. She has fond memories of the popular tourist town and misses her many friends though, she noted: "It would get light about 11 a.m. and dark at 2 p.m. in the wintertime."
