Retired Persons Services, Inc. Standardizes on CA-Unicenter.


ISLANDIA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 24, 1996--Computer Associates (CA) today announced that Retired Persons Services, Inc., a mail service supplier of pharmaceutical products, has standardized systems management on CA-Unicenter. The CA enterprise management solution coordinates Retired Persons Services, Inc.'s completely re-engineered IT environment and modernized distribution system.

Retired Persons Services is migrating its IT systems from a DEC VAX (Virtual Address eXtension) A venerable family of 32-bit computers from HP (via Digital and Compaq) introduced in 1977 with the VAX-11/780. VAX models ranged from desktop units to mainframes all running the same VMS operating system, and VAXes could emulate PDP models  environment to a client/server configuration consisting of more than 100 servers and 1,500 managed nodes. The new environment includes UNIX-based DEC AlphaServer 8400s, interconnected Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  local area networks, and Pentium-based Windows for Workgroups A version of Windows 3.1 introduced in 1992 that added peer-to-peer networking.  Resh, the organization will use CA-Unicenter for a wide range of management functions. Retired Persons Services is developing agents for CA-Unicenter that will monitor the filling and shipping of prescriptions at a fulfillment center under construction in Horsham, Pennsylvania Horsham is a census-designated place (CDP) in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 14,779 at the 2000 census. Horsham is located entirely within Horsham Township, Pennsylvania. . CA-Unicenter's single sign-on An identification system that lets users log into multiple Web sites on the Internet with one username and password. Single sign-on systems are also used within an enterprise, enabling users to access all authorized resources in the local network using the same username and password.  option is expected to dramatically reduce problem calls from end-users, who will no longer need separate passwords for accessing the network, as well as order entry, customer service and financial applications. CA-Unicenter will also protect the confidentiality of customer records.

The frequent updating of the organization's order fulfillment Order fulfillment (in BE also: order fulfilment) is in the most general sense the complete process from point of sales inquiry to delivery of a product to the customer. Sometimes Order fulfillment  software will be handled by CA-Unicenter's software delivery feature, eliminating the myriad difficulties associated with updating software manually, Resh said. In addition, the CA enterprise management solution will manage financial operations and automate backup capabilities.
