Retired NSO Michael J. Balle dies.

) passed away on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001 in Michigan.

"Michael Balle served more than 22 years as a DAV Department of Michigan Service Officer and DAV NSO providing needed assistance to disabled veterans and their families," DAV National Adjutant ADJUTANT. A military officer, attached to every battalion of a regiment. It is his duty to superintend, under his superiors, all matters relating to the ordinary routine of discipline in the regiment.  Arthur H. Wilson said. "As a dedicated member of the DAV NSO corps, Michael worked expertly to build better lives for countless veterans and their families. We are deeply saddened by his death."

A native of Ferndale, Mich., Mr. Balle enlisted in the United States Marine Corps United States Marine Corps (USMC)

 and contracted malaria. He was honorably discharged at the rank of corporal in September 1945.

Mr. Balle began his DAV career as a DAV Department Of Michigan Service Officer in 1961 and was appointed a DAV NSO at the Detroit DAV Office in 1966. He continued his DAV career at the Detroit office until retiring in March 1984.

A member of DAV Chapter 102, Trenton, Mich., Mr. Balle is survived by his wife, Patricia; his son, Martin; daughters, Pamela Tocco-Schwartz and Denise Mattieni; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters.
