Retailers still taking 'a bite of the Big Apple'.

Despite cutbacks with many national retailers and jitters jitters 'Butterflies' Psychology An episode of nervousness or anxiety that often precedes a public event; jitters is a type of performance anxiety which may affect actors in a stage production–stage fright or soloist musicians; it may respond to anxiolytics  on Wall Street, a number of positive trends are surfacing in New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of

One such trend is the influx of "retail" banking and suburban banks. Banks such as Washington Mutual “WaMu” redirects here. For the Washington, DC radio station, see WAMU.

Washington Mutual (or WaMu; NYSE: WM) is the United States' largest savings and loan association.

by storm. Telecommunications providers like Cingular Wireless also have entered the local market with aggressive expansion plans.

The "big box" concept also continues to grow throughout the five boroughs. What once was a suburban phenomenon has prospered in urban markets, which is widely seen by industry observers as the next emerging retail sales areas in the U.S.

Home Depot The Home Depot (NYSE: HD) is an American retailer of home improvement and construction products and services.

Headquartered in Vinings, just outside Atlanta in unincorporated Cobb County, Georgia, Home Depot employs more than 355,000 people and operates 2,164 big-box

Best Buy, another big box specialty retailer, is set to open another New York City store next September at Caesar's Bay, Brooklyn. And the company plans on opening an additional 16 in the New York area over the next two years.

Costco, the national wholesale club, already has two successful stores in the outer boroughs.

New to our region is H&M, a Swedish clothing retailer, whose growth has exploded in the metro area This article is about the music production team. For the article about population centers, see metropolitan area.

. After first establishing familiarity with its brand and product with street front stores, they are now moving to malls in the outer boroughs and suburbs. This past winter, in the middle of a recession, H&M opened stores in Queens and Brooklyn. Each has experienced tremendous success.

But it's not only national retailers moving in to the New York market. In fact, many existing retailers are in the middle of multi-million dollar renovations or expansions. Retailers like Lee's Art Shop on 57th Street and Fred Leighton Jewelers on Madison Avenue will soon unveil new and improved looks.

The planned construction and renovation of hundreds of telecom stores, banks and other retailers in and around New York will not only create scores of new jobs in construction and retail, but they also will absorb prime space. Space that needs to be constructed quickly and capably as the competition to capture market share becomes more furious.

New York's consistent appeal as a retail venue should not be underestimated. National retailers may be feeling a pinch these days, but they certainly don't appear to be taking it out on New York City. In fact, these retailers are fueling much of the city's economic recovery.

With the influx of new retailers and the reformatting of existing ones, it is obvious that retail is an industry undergoing constant change. If we are prepared to meet these rapidly changing and growing needs of retail in New York, it is sure to benefit both of our industries.
