Results of SREDA's annual industry survey.

, and labour-management relations. Approximately 750 industrial companies in the Saskatoon region were contacted to participate in this year's survey with a response rate of 58%.

Information was collected on businesses in targeted industry sectors, which are represented in the chart below. The composition of these Saskatoon region industries is dominated by manufacturing, but growth in emerging sectors such as Life Sciences and Telecommunications Communicating information, including data, text, pictures, voice and video over long distance. See communications.  are further diversifying the economy.

Following are highlights from this year's survey:

Compared to the previous year's sales, 92% indicated revenues were either up or steady. The Life Sciences and Mining and Mining Supply and Service sectors were the most positive with 100% of managers surveyed reporting stable or rising revenues.

A high degree of confidence for future growth was expressed as 85% of managers surveyed indicated prospects were either excellent or good. The sectors of Mining and Mining Supply and Service (94%), Information Technology (90%), and Telecommunications (90%) were the most positive with prospects ranked as either excellent or good.

As a result of increased sales and high prospects for growth, many companies from all industry sectors are planning expansions in 2006. Of all the companies surveyed, 18% are planning an expansion. The total value of expansion plans for all sectors is expected to be approximately $153 million. The Life Sciences sector accounts for around $113 million of that value while the Food Processing Food processing is the set of methods and techniques used to transform raw ingredients into food for consumption by humans or animals. The food processing industry utilises these processes.  sector accounts for nearly $13 million. In addition, according to participants, three industry sectors will lead the growth in full-time full-time
