Resort finding market demand.

Not a year old, Cedar Meadows success surprises owners

For brothers Richard, Robert, Gilles and Michel Lafleur, entrepreneurial success is a family affair.

Co-owners of Lafleur Gardens, a successful gardening supply company located in Timmins, the brothers have channelled their proven business acumen and spirit into Cedar Meadows Resort and Animal Park.

Located on 200 acres on the outskirts of Timmins, the 1,800 square-metre facility is quickly making a name for itself as a successful tourist and corporate destination in northeastern Ontario Northeastern Ontario is the region within the Canadian province of Ontario which lies north and east of Lakes Superior and Huron.

Opened last February, the resort has 29 rooms and offers different levels of convenience from single rooms to more exotic suites equipped with fireplace and whirlpool facilities.

The resort also contains a full 100-seat dining facility and an adjoining 175-acre wildlife park housing a variety of different animals including moose, deer, big horn Big Horn is a tall peak in the Cascade Range in Washington, USA. As the performance of the vehicle depends to a large extent on keeping its weight as low as possible, there is no enclosure for  market.

While initially worried, Lafleur says he and his brothers clearly underestimated the allure the resort is having as a multi-faceted tourist destination A tourist destination is a city, town or other area the economy of which is dependent to a significant extent on the revenues accruing from tourism.

a break from their routines to weddings and anniversary parties and a consistent network of corporate clients, the resort has filled a void in the Timmins region.

"We are booking three-and four-day conferences two and three times a month," Lafleur says with a hint of surprise in his voice.

While he says the early success of the resort has been a blessing, he and his brothers do not plan to rest on their laurels.

There are already plans to expand the resort.

They would like to add 30 rooms and more conference facilities to the existing structure and build an adjacent recreation vehicle park and a small marina.

However, Lafleur says that any expansion is still at least a year away.

For now, Lafleur says he and his brothers are busy gearing up for what they hope will be a busy and successful winter season.
