Resorcinol diols make softer TDI elastomers. (Keeping Up with Urethanes).

A new family of chain extenders based on hydroxyethyl ether of resorcinol resorcinol /re·sor·ci·nol/ (re-zor´si-nol) a bactericidal, fungicidal, keratolytic, exfoliative, and antipruritic agent, used especially as a topical keratolytic in the treatment of acne and other dermatoses.  (HER) allow urethane processors to formulate tougher TDI TDI - Transport Driver Interface  elastomers that provide higher performance at lower hardness (below 60 Shore A). The new longer-chain HER products-HER-TG250 and HER-TG300--from Indspec Chemical Corp., Pittsburgh, can reduce or eliminate the need for plasticizers plasticizers

mostly triaryl phosphates, such as tricresyl, triphenyl phosphates, which are poisonous. See also triorthocresyl phosphate.
, depending on the desired hardness.

The new chain extenders expand applications from harder, fatigue-resistant MDI (1) (Multiple Document Interface) A Windows function that allows an application to display and lets the user work with more than one document at the same time.  elastomers to lowdurometer TDI elastomers suitable for soft roll covers and seals, vibration damping, and applications that require a high level of tear and fatigue resistance.
