Current Growth Drivers

For the eighth year running, Flomox is Shionogi's largest selling drug, and is the company's core product supporting Shionogi's leadership in the domestic antibiotic market. Although sales have been in decline, Shionogi have insisted they will continue to invest in this product, maximising its value

Shionogi licensed-in exclusive Japanese marketing rights to the oral quinolone antibiotic, Avelox, from Bayer Yakuhin in October 2005. Avelox was launched in Japan in December 2005, and will become a core Anti-infective product.

Sales of Claritin, an anti-allergic agent, have risen strongly due to increased market awareness and a domestic increase in pollen allergies. The launch of the new Claritin RediTab formulation helped further boost sales, whilst a new orphan indication was filed in September 2004. Shionogi only retain data exclusivity for the drug until March 2009, after which sales are anticipated to fall rapidly.
