Research and Markets: Broadband Satellite Set to be a Major Force in 2005.

DUBLIN, Ireland -- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c11886) has announced the addition of Broadband Satellite Markets: 4th Edition to their offering

The space industry was sure that 2004 was going to be the year of satellite broadband. Twelve months ago the industry was looking forward to the launch of WildBlue services in the U.S.A., iPSTAR in Asia, and two revolutionary Spaceway spot-beam, Ka-band satellites for HNS HNS Hughes Network Systems LLC
HNS Hrvatski Nogometni Savez (Croatian Football Federation)
HNS Head & Neck Surgery
HNS Hughes Network Systems, Inc.
. Now, we are at the beginning of 2005, and the iPSTAR satellite is still on the ground, Anik F2 was finally launched in July but WildBlue is anticipating commercial services starting in the second quarter of 2005 at best, and the first two Spaceway satellites are being reconfigured for HDTV (High Definition TV) A set of digital television (DTV) standards that offer the highest resolution and sharpest picture. Although some HDTV sets are available in standard (rather square) screen sizes, the overwhelming majority of sets are wide screen, which eliminates  broadcasts for DirecTV!

What has happened to this supposedly transformational year in this industry?

Are predictions from certain quarters finally coming true that satellite broadband's window of opportunity has closed?

Will we only see incremental growth coming from well-known and relatively staid enterprise VSAT (Very Small Aperture satellite Terminal) A small earth station for satellite transmission that handles up to 56 Kbits/sec of digital transmission. VSATs that handle the T1 data rate (up to 1.544 Mbits/sec) are called "TSATs.  networks?

Are the hopes of cutting space segment costs by a factor of five or ten finally dashed on the reality of slow demand and rapidly expanding terrestrial competition?

This Broadband Satellite Markets, 4th Edition study addresses just these questions and more. Now in its 4th edition, this study has been recognized as the industry standard market analysis and forecast report of the global satellite broadband market. Segmented into three main applications (Enterprise and SME (1) (Small and Medium-sized Enterprise) See SMB.

(2) (Subject Matter Expert) An individual who is well-versed in the policies and procedures of a particular department or division.
IP VSAT Networks, Consumer & SOHO Soho (sōhō`, sə–), district of Westminster, London, England, known for its continental restaurants. Once a fashionable quarter, it became popular among writers and artists in the 19th cent.  Satellite Broadband Services, and Satellite ISP (1) See in-system programmable.

(2) (Internet Service Provider) An organization that provides access to the Internet. Connection to the user is provided via dial-up, ISDN, cable, DSL and T1/T3 lines.
Trunking Services) and providing in-depth analysis into six regional markets, this study tackles all aspects of satellite broadband services and provides the raw data needed for the industry to plan how to profit from these markets.

Fortunately, all has not been for nothing for satellite broadband services in 2004. The Orbit Satnet two-way satellite broadband service aimed at the residential, SOHO and SME market See SMB.  in the Middle East has seen fairly steady growth despite some technical hiccups Hiccups Definition

Hiccups are the result of an involuntary, spasmodic contraction of the diaphragm followed by the closing of the throat.
Description
. Since the service was first announced in October 2003, Orbit Satnet has garnered a few thousand subscribers and appears on track to build up a relatively substantial business in its service area. Equally important, ViaSat is getting first hand experience with its DOCSIS-based SurfBeam product in the roll out of the Orbit Satnet services. This experience will help the company better understand the real world environment of the service and will hopefully ease the implementation of WildBlue's products that are based on similar Ka-band SurfBeam end user equipment.

We anticipate that a successful launch of consumer and SOHO satellite broadband services in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  in 2005 will lead to increased demand in other regions of the world. Much of the space industry is keeping a close eye on what is happening in North America and will begin to market these services with a much greater vigor elsewhere in the world should consumers and SOHO end users take a liking to satellite broadband.

Turning to the Enterprise and SME IP VSAT Networks segment, the industry continues to see steady incremental growth in many regions of the world. Small, medium and large service providers are rolling out new services and technology, and are continuing the trend to move beyond basic equipment sales to providing complete, integrated solutions to clients. More often the industry is integrating satellite and terrestrial transport in order to offer the most efficient solutions for the client. In the BBSM BBSM Building Broadband Services Manager (Cisco)
