Research and Markets: 2006 Research Available on Alcatel, Cisco, Ericsson and Other Metro Edge - SDH Products.

DUBLIN, Ireland -- Research and Markets has announced the addition of Metro Edge - SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) The European counterpart to SONET. See SONET.

product research to their offerings. These reports, written by an objective 3rd party, contain insight and analysis of the product or service strengths and weaknesses, lists buying criteria and how the product or service fares in each category, and a comprehensive table of product or service metrics and specifications. These reports are useful for purchasers who need to evaluate products or as a source of competitive intelligence for vendors.

The following reports are now available:

Alcatel 1660 SM (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c41337)

The Alcatel 1660 SM is a well deployed metro edge platform with many features such as Ethernet, storage, and video designed to meet emerging service requirements. However, less than robust E1/E3 support can increase carrier CapEx.

 15454 SDH (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reportinfo.asp?r=337886)

Cisco's ONS 15454 SDH offers several competitive features, multi-service capabilities, and well integrated Metro WDM (1) (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) A technology that uses multiple lasers and transmits several wavelengths of light (lambdas) simultaneously over a single optical fiber. . But a small installed base argues that carriers are less than enthusiastic about Cisco's value proposition.

ECI Telecom XDM500 (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reportinfo.asp?r=362276)

ECI's XDM-500 is a solid integrated platform, provides competitive Ethernet switching, and offers strong support for integrated DWDM (Dense WDM) The term given to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) when significantly more channels were being added. Since WDM is increasingly more "dense" all the time, both terms are used synonymously. See WDM.

in a scalable, flexible solution, but offers only low port densities.

Ericsson OMS OMS - Opportunity Management System 1664 (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reportinfo.asp?r=337985)

Ericsson's OMS1664 has a competitive cross- connect, leading E1, STM-1, and Fast Ethernet port densities, and significant DWDM capability, and this new NG-SDH NG-SDH Next Generation of Synchronous Digital Hierarchy  platform now includes important Ethernet features.

Lucent Metropolis ADM (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reportinfo.asp?r=337851)

The Lucent Metropolis ADM offers a good package of NG-SDH features in an established platform, but optical and Ethernet port density, VLAN See virtual LAN.

support, and ring termination capabilities are less competitive.

Lucent OME 6500 (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reportinfo.asp?r=356019)

Nortel's OME 6500 can function as an MSPP (MultiService Provisioning Platform) A high-end Cisco router that supports TDM circuits, packets and optical connections at the edge of the network. See MSSP and MSTP.  and even as a small optical switch. Offering leading TDM switching, ring termination, and optical port density, it includes strong Ethernet support but has yet to demonstrate significant market traction.

Siemens Communications hiT 7070 (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reportinfo.asp?r=337915)

Siemens hiT 7070 offers a highly scalable VC-4 matrix, significant WDM capabilities, and strong ring termination - though its E1 and E3 port density is low.
