ADVA Optical Networking develops, manufactures, markets, and sells Optical+Ethernet-based networking solutions to telecommunications Communicating information, including data, text, pictures, voice and video over long distance. ADVA Optical Networking commenced operations in 1994 as ADVA Integration Service und Entwicklugg von optischen Systmen und Komponenten GmbH. On January 25, 1999, the shareholders resolved to transform the company into a stock corporation. Since that time, the company has operated under the name ADVA Optical Networking.

The companys systems are used by telecommunications service providers A Telecommunications Service Provider or TSP is a type of Communications Service Provider that has traditionally provided telephone and similar services. This category includes ILECs, CLECs, and mobile wireless companies. , companies, universities, and government agencies worldwide. ADVA Optical Networking sells its product portfolio both directly and through an international network of distribution partners.

By the end of 2005, ADVA Optical Networking solutions had been deployed at more than 100 carriers and 5,000 enterprises in more than 40 countries worldwide. The number of carrier customers rose to 135 on June 30, 2006.
