Rescheduled Jerusalem accounting conference opens in November.
The 5th Jerusalem Conference on Accountancy, originally scheduled for November 1990, was postponed because of the Middle East hostilities. With peace restored to the region, the international accounting conference has been rescheduled for November 17-20, 1991.
The agenda remains the same. The principal topics include harmonization and standard setting in the accounting world; harmonization of auditing standards and rules of professional conduct; and diversification, management and marketing in an accounting firm. When necessary, papers for the conference were updated to reflect changes in the past year.
The sponsoring Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Israel has been able to retain an impressive lineup of speakers. The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) will hold a semiannual meeting in Jerusalem just before the conference, and IFAC President Bertil Edlund will open the Jerusalem conference.
Scheduled speakers include Thomas W. Rimerman, 1990-91 chairman of the American Institute of CPAS board of directors; A. Marvin Strait, past AICPA chairman; Edmund Coulson, former chief accountant, Securities and Exchange Commission; Arthur Wyatt, chairman of the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC); David Tweedie, chairman of the United Kingdom accounting standards board; and Justice Miriam Ben Porath, state comptroller of Israel.
At least 400 international guests and 800 Israeli CPAS are expected to attend the conference. English will be the official language, with simultaneous translations in Spanish, French and Hebrew.
Spouses' tours will be available during the conference, and both preconference and posteonference tours have been arranged.
