* Republican victories in governor's races in Kentucky and Mississippi underscored the Democratic party's woes in the South. President Bush campaigned for both winning Republican candidates. The Democratic candidates were too wise to invite national Democrats There are a number of political parties operating in various countries with the name National Democrats.

 to campaign for them. When the Democratic candidate in Kentucky tried to make an issue of Bush's economic policies, the strategy backfired by tying him to the national Democratic party. We hope that Ernie Fletcher Ernest Lee Fletcher (born November 12, 1952) has served as governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky since December 9, 2003. He is a member of the Republican Party. Biography  and Haley Barbour Haley Reeves Barbour (born October 22, 1947) is the current Republican governor of Mississippi. He gained a national spotlight in August 2005 after Mississippi was hit by Hurricane Katrina. Since then he has been mentioned as a possible 2008 vice presidential candidate.  will bring reformist conservative governance to Kentucky and Mississippi, respectively. The political action now moves to Louisiana, where conservative wunderkind wun·der·kind
