Reply Extends DOS and Windows Compatibility to Apple Power Macintosh Family; New DOS on MacCard supports Power Mac 7100/66.


SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 21, 1995--As a demonstration of their continued commitment to cross platform technology, Reply Corporation today announced that Apple Computer, Inc., has expanded Reply's licensing agreement of Apple's DOS Compatibility Card technology enabling Reply to develop DOS on Mac cards for selected Power Macintosh(TM) models.

Reply's first DOS on Mac card for Power Macintosh systems will support the popular 7100/66 model, providing a fast, affordable way to run DOS and Windows on a Mac. Both the DOS Compatibility Card from Apple for the Power Macintosh 6100 and Reply's DOS on Mac card for Quadra and Centris systems, announced in 4Q 1994, have been extremely well received by customers and by the press.

(hardware) Processor Direct Slot - (PDS) Apple Computer's name for a local bus connection. Most Macintoshes have only one PDS connector. Different Apple computers have different PDS specifications.
 (PDS (1) (Processor Direct Slot) A single expansion slot on certain, early Macintosh models that was used to connect high-speed peripherals as well as additional CPUs. Providing a channel directly to the CPU, the PDS coexisted with NuBus slots on some models. ) of the system to gain maximum throughput, will expand upon the capabilities of the popular DOS on Mac card. The latest 486DX2/66, 486DX4/100, Pentium OverDrive processors and optional L2 cache will deliver increased performance. The new DOS on Mac card shares up to 4MB of Mac memory or dedicated onboard memory can be installed and expanded to 64MB. Video resolution and monitor compatibility are enhanced to provide true SVGA (Super VGA) A screen resolution of 800x600 pixels. Third-party vendors extended IBM's VGA display standard and were the first to use the term. SVGA has also referred to 1,024x768 resolutions. The addition of an optional parallel port and second serial port provide increased flexibility for Apple and PC/AT-compatible peripherals. Reply has also extended the network capabilities of the card to include Token Ring, in addition to the existing Ethernet support for Novell NetWare and TCP/IP TCP/IP
