RepairOne's partnership is in conjunction with a Habitat for Humanity International Habitat For Humanity International (HFHI) (generally referred to as Habitat for Humanity or simply Habitat) is an international, ecumenical Christian, non-governmental, non-profit organization devoted to building "simple, decent, and affordable" housing. (HFHI HFHI Habitat For Humanity International ) 5:1 matching grant earned by HHH as a result of hurricanes that devastated the area last year. The RepairOne sponsored home is scheduled to be completed prior to the 2005 hurricane season.

According to Sarah Kotas of HHH, homeowners are chosen based on three criteria -- current living conditions, ability to provide payment, and their willingness to partner with HHH. A family must also be willing to invest 300 to 500 "sweat equity" hours by working with volunteers to construct their home. The family will repay a zero interest mortgage with terms that extend for an average of 20 years. The mortgage payments are then combined with community donations to help build the next HHH home.
Habitat for Humanity has been building homes since 1976. The Halifax Habitat for Humanity (HHH) affiliate, founded in 1986, has built 86 homes throughout East Central Florida. Their 'Build them by the Dozen' campaign constructs one new home each month.
