) announced today that Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA) will keynote the company's June 3-4 conference, Year 2000 Business Continuity for the Mid-Atlantic States. The conference, to be held at the Hilton Arlington and Towers in Arlington, Va., has received unprecedented support from Washington business leaders and government representatives. The conference provides attendees the opportunity to hear from leading contingency planning experts and local service providers including the District of Columbia District of Columbia, federal district (2000 pop. 572,059, a 5.7% decrease in population since the 1990 census), 69 sq mi (179 sq km), on the east bank of the Potomac River, coextensive with the city of Washington, D.C. Over the course of the two-day seminar, both theoretical and practical insights on business continuity planning Business Continuity Planning (BCP) is an interdisciplinary peer mentoring methodology used to create and validate a practiced logistical plan for how an organization will recover and restore partially or completely interrupted critical function(s) within a predetermined  will be presented. On Day One, conferees can acquire theoretical knowledge and insight from experts, including George Washington University's Institute for Crisis, Disaster and Risk Management, Crestar Bank, and LeBoeuf, Green, Lamb, and Macrae, LLP. On Day Two, conferees will hear the status of local service providers and receive industry-wide insights from national utilities associations. With this information, conferees will begin applying what they have learned. Using the RaytheonReady planning template, Dean Sims, principal author of "How To 2000" and Raytheon's Senior Program Manager of Year 2000 Services, will guide attendees through drafting a Business Continuity Plan for their own organizations.

Widely recognized as a national leader in the Year 2000 effort, Raytheon first released "How To 2000" in 1996. An ITAA-approved proven comprehensive Y2K methodology, "How To 2000" presents a complete organizational approach to overcome the Year 2000 issues, offering a guide to cost-effective, deliverable-based methodology to approaching and surviving the Year 2000 transition. According to Sims, "Business continuity planning does not mean planning for every contingency, but developing a plan that can continue business by overcoming the obstacles despite unexpected contingencies."

Raytheon's premier seminar for this new business initiative is the first in a series of nationwide seminars. Future conference topics and dates will be announced at a later date.
