 courts, witnesses have the option of reciting an oath that ends with "so help me God" or an affirmation that includes no religious references. Similar options apply to witnesses signing affidavits and defendants waiving their rights to court-appointed attorneys. Now Judge James M. Honeycutt James M. Honeycutt is a Professor of Communication Studies at the Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge, internationally know for his work in relationship scripts and daydreaming, particularly imagined interaction conflict-linkage theory which explains why it is hard to forget  of the 22nd Judicial District of North Carolina has asked local officials to remove all religious references from courtrooms in which he presides-including both the oath and the bailiffs opening declaration that ends with "God save the state and this honorable court." Although only aimed for his own sessions, his request still rankles in Davidson County Davidson County is the name of two counties in the United States:
