MADISON, N.C. -- The Remington-Elsag ALPR is an important tool for force and site protection. ALPR enhances the protection of U.S. assets in CONUS and around the world. Examples include protection of military bases and installations, government buildings, embassies, critical infrastructure sites, and other sensitive locations.

ALPR works by reading license plates of rapidly moving vehicles as well as parked vehicles and comparing the plates to a database containing vehicle information and warnings. In the U.S. alone, in less than a year, the system has identified over 2,000 stolen vehicles which resulted in several hundred criminal arrests.

The system is in use for both normal law enforcement, counter-terrorism, highway and border control, site security and in counter-drug operations. The ALPR has the ability to read virtually any alpha-numeric license plate or other identifier in most languages. Over 4,000 ALPR systems are operating in the U.S. and around the world.

A demonstration vehicle equipped with the ALPR will be at the AUSA AUSA Association of the United States Army
