Remembering the Red Hot.


This old sign sparked more letters than any other "Picture This" location so far. Here are a few of the interesting notes we received:

My dad's favorite place in the whole world to eat was the Red Hot. My mom didn't agree with him, but when we were traveling, my twin sister and I voted with Dad because we knew how much he loved it. My dad passed away 18 years ago, and I still never go through Meridian Meridian (mərĭd`ēən), city (1990 pop. 41,036), seat of Lauderdale co., E Miss., near the Ala. line; settled 1831, inc. 1860.  and see that sign without having fond memories of my dad and some of those trips.--Nancy Gamer, Madison

The bricks from the torn-down Red Hot are now a part of a beautiful courtyard patio in my brother's backyard in Meridian.--Laurie Norman Simpson, Daphne, Alabama Daphne is a city in Baldwin County, Alabama, USA on the eastern shoreline of Mobile Bay just off I-10: 11 miles east of Mobile, which it is a suburb of, 45 miles west of Pensacola, Florida and 150 miles southwest of Montgomery, the State Capital.  

In the mid-1960s, I ate many a 20-cent grilled cheese sandwich A grilled cheese sandwich, (also known as cheese toasty or toasted cheese sandwich) is a form of toasted sandwich that consists of two slices of bread and at least one slice of cheese melted in between.  there on my way home from college in Hattiesburg because that's about all the money I had left!--Sylvia B. When my husband and I were dating, he was a flight student at NAS (1) See network access server.
