Reliant Technologies receives 510-K marketing clearance from FDA for AccuScan CO2 Laser Scanner.

FOSTER CITY, Calif.--(HealthWire)--Feb. 12, 1996--Reliant Technologies, Inc. just received 510(K) marketing clearance from the FDA for AccuScan(TM) CO2 Laser Scanner.

This device, designed for variety for aesthetic surgeries, will scan a laser beam into an Archemedes spiral pattern that can ablate target tissue to a controlled depth.

The AccuScan Laser Scanner will focus and homogeneously scan the beam over a section of up to 9 mm in 0.2 seconds. To achieve this effect, two in-line rotating mirrors scan the beam over a circular area. Minimum exposure time of any type of laser pulse must be at least 0.2 seconds to achieve optimal performance of the AccuScan Laser Scanner. The combination of char-free ablation with layer-by-layer tissue removal is of greatest value for high precision applications.

In just 97 days, this device was granted a U.S. patent. All 16 originally submitted claims were allowed.
