GARLAND, Texas Garland is a city in Dallas County, Texas, (USA). It is a northeastern suburb of Dallas and is a major part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 215,768, making it the tenth-most populous city in Texas and the eighty-sixth most  - The Oregon Reign scored a total of 12 runs to win both of its games in pool play Tuesday and win the pool at the ASA Asa (ā`sə), in the Bible, king of Judah, son and successor of Abijah. He was a good king, zealous in his extirpation of idols. When Baasha of Israel took Ramah (a few miles N of Jerusalem), Asa bought the help of Benhadad of Damascus and  softball 18-and-under national tournament.

The Reign will begin bracket play today at 8 p.m.

Alicia Cook and Caley Peterson combined on a six-inning perfect game to win the first game, 8-0 over the Oklahoma Image.

In the second game, Christina Cooke pitched all seven innings, striking out 10 while allowing just three hits and one walk, in the Reign's 4-0 victory over the Kentucky Lady Sluggers.

Stephanie Zellner hit a two-run double in the first inning to provide all of the runs the Reign would need.

Kim Hoiting went 2-for-3 and Stacy finished 2-for-4.

Royster tops Challengers' home run mark

KLAMATH FALLS Klamath Falls, city (1990 pop. 17,737), seat of Klamath co., SW Oreg., at the southern tip of Upper Klamath Lake; inc. 1905. It is the processing and distribution center of a lumber, livestock, and farm area.  - Ryan Royster hit a home run in each game to break the Eugene Challengers' single-season record and lead the Challengers to an 8-7, 12-8 sweep of the Klamath Falls Falcons on Tuesday.

Royster hit a solo home run in the first game to tie the record and hit a pinch-hit, three-run homer, his 22nd of the season, in the second game to break it.

The victory sewed up second place in Area 4 for the Challengers (46-14, 15-5), who will play Redmond in the first round of the state Legion tournament on Aug. 5.

Hoeck signs to run

at University of Portland The University of Portland (UP) is a private Catholic university located in Portland, Oregon. It is specifically affiliated with the Congregation of Holy Cross and is the sister school of the University of Notre Dame. Founded in 1901, UP has a student body of about 3,200 students.  

Churchill's John Hoeck has signed a national letter of intent to compete in cross country and track and field at the University of Portland.

Hoeck, a two-time Midwestern League district champion in cross country, placed 11th overall at the Class 4A state meet as a junior in 2002. He was 23rd as a sophomore and 21st as a senior.

His personal best in the 3,000 meters is 8:43 and he posted a 15:33 clocking in the 5,000 at the Stanford Invitational.

`John is a tremendous sleeper,' Portland head coach Rob Conner said. `He hasn't trained excessively and has a lot of room to improve in college. He fits the Portland prototype.'

Hoeck will redshirt in the fall.

Padres move Morton

to Fort Wayne

Colt Morton, a 6-foot-6 catching prospect of the San Diego Padres, was promoted from the Eugene Emeralds to Fort Wayne, a long-season A affiliate, on Tuesday.

Morton batted .278 for Eugene. He led the Emeralds with seven home runs.

Thunder 12-and-under

MARIETTA, Ga. - Kayla Braud went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead the Eugene Thunder to a first-game victory in a split of two games in pool play at the ASA 12-and-under A national softball tournament Tuesday.

The Thunder, who beat Nitro of Sauderton, Pa., 7-3, also got two hits apiece from Kayla Braud, Michelle Sconce and Megan Harvey in the victory.

ROSEVILLE, Calif. - Sheila Greider pitched a complete game and Chloe Buerstatte went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to lead the Eugene area's Golden Gloves to an 11-3 pool play victory against the Irving Thunder of Texas at the ASA 12-and-under B national softball tournament Tuesday. Pool play continues today.

WOODBURN - Eric Robinson and David Reese Sr., both of Eugene, finished first and second, respectively, in the motorcycle division of the Pro Stock Invitational at Woodburn Dragstrip on Tuesday.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas College Station is a city in Brazos County, Texas, situated in Central Texas. It is located in the heart of the Brazos Valley. The city is located within the most populated region of Texas, near to three of the 10 largest cities in the United States - Houston, Dallas, and San  - The Rampage of League City, Texas, kept the Eugene Killer Bees hitless to win the teams' pool play opener of the ASA 10-and-under ASA national softball tournament 6-0 on Tuesday.

The Killer Bees continue pool play today.

LAS VEGAS - The Oregon Speedcats lost 37-31 to the Bay Area Heat in the U13 American Roundball National Tournament on Tuesday but finished 2-1 in pool play to advance to the championship quarterfinals today.

Claire Christiansen had 10 points and eight rebounds.

LAS VEGAS - The Oregon Quaxe U13 boys team beat the Showtime Ballers of Los Angeles 70-65 in overtime Tuesday to finish 2-1 in pool play and advance to the championship bracket of the American Roundball National Tournament.
