PENDLETON - Steve Welker of Diamond Woods Golf Course shot a 67 Wednesday and was tied for sixth place going into today's final round of the Senior Oregon Open Invitational at Wildhorse Resort.

Welker's 6-under 138 total left him five strokes behind Mike Early, the first-round leader who used a second-round 68 for a 133 total that left him three strokes ahead of three players tied for second at 136.

MARIETTA, Ga. - A three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning sank the Eugene Thunder in a 7-4 loss to the Atlanta Vipers in the ASA 12-and-under A national softball tournament Wednesday.

Shannon Morgan and Michelle Sconce were each 2-for-4 for the Thunder and drove in runs in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4.

Kayla Braud was 3-for-3 for the Thunder, who play at 3 p.m. today in an effort to survive in the double-elimination tournament.

Golden Gloves lose

ROSEVILLE, Calif. - The Eugene-based Golden Gloves dropped to 1-1 in pool play Wednesday with a 7-2 loss to the Adiele Tigers of Iowa at the ASA 12-and-under B national softball tournament.

Tori Pangnilien was 3-for-3 for the Golden Gloves, who will face the San Mateo (Calif.) Slammers today in the first game of double-elimination bracket play.

McMahon finishes first

in barrel racing

MYRTLE POINT - Jessica McMahon of Elmira won the barrel racing event in a Northwest Professional Rodeo Association rodeo that ended Saturday.

McMahon posted a time of 17.23 seconds Friday to beat Tanya Cocco by 0.32 seconds.

McCay places in national

high school rodeo finals

FARMINGTON, N.M. - Buck McCay of Crow finished 113th in calf roping at the National High School Finals Rodeo, which ended Sunday.

McCay posted a time of 21.776 seconds in the event.
