RehabCare Honors Annual Employee Award Winners.


ST. LOUIS -- In an awards ceremony held in St. Louis on December 11, RehabCare Group, Inc. (NYSE NYSE

See: New York Stock Exchange
: RHB) honored 19 individuals and five teams of employees with special awards to recognize those who consistently demonstrate company core values and exemplify the spirit of the company. "These employees are a shining example of the qualities we believe are inherent in the people that make up a world-class organization," remarked John H. Short, Ph.D., RehabCare President and Chief Executive Officer.

Dr. Short said the company's most distinguished award, the Trusheim Spirit Award, is presented to one employee each year. Introduced in 2005, the award is named in commemoration of RehabCare Board Chairman H. Edwin Trusheim, who had served as Chairman since 1992 until his retirement in August 2006.

"Nominated by colleagues, this person is openly committed to our values of excellence, integrity, teamwork and fun and stands out among his or her peers in the areas of leadership, customer service and communication," said Dr. Short. This year's recipient, Pamela Higgins, a Rehabilitation rehabilitation: see physical therapy.  Technician for the RehabCare outpatient program at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, OH, was selected for what Dr. Short described as her "passion for personal and program development and her special brand of patient care."

"Pam is a tireless 'student' of her profession, continually searching for ways to improve her skills and the quality of patient services she and her teammates provide. She also makes a priority of learning important details about each patient and infusing fun into the everyday operations of her program," he said.

In addition to presentation of the Trusheim Spirit Award, Chairman's Bell Awards were presented by current Board Chairman Harry E. Rich. The Chairman's Bell recognizes individuals or teams who most contribute to company goals while demonstrating a dedication to core values.

This year's winners included five corporate and field teams: the Valley Baptist Outpatient Clinic in Harlingen, TX; the RehabCare Operations Administrative Support Team in St. Louis, MO; the West Jefferson West Jefferson is the name of three communities in the United States of America:

  • West Jefferson, North Carolina
  • West Jefferson, Ohio
 Outpatient Unit Team in Marrero, LA; the therapy team of Lisa Hartman and Nicole Frossard at Willows Health Center in Rockford, IL; and the Oklahoma Marketing Team.

Also among the 2006 award recipients were four business development professionals, commended for achieving superior levels of performance in bringing new business to RehabCare throughout the year. They included Director of Business Development Pamela McKinney (Aledo, TX), who won "Best Record Against Competition;" Kerri Steffan (Marthasville, MO), Director of Business Development, who was awarded "Newcomer of the Year;" Karen Banks (Louisville, KY), also a Director, who received the Business Development Professional of the Year award for Long-Term Care long-term care (LTC),
