Regularization of Doctors in Punjab encourages contract teachers.
RAWALPINDI, August 09, 2009 (Frontier Star): The Regular appointments of contract doctors in Punjab by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has voiced concern regarding the autonomy of Medical Institutions and over the future of Punjab Medical Ordinance 2003, as now contract teachers of the province has pinned hope with the provincial Government for their regular appointments. Reliable sources informed that Mian Shahbaz Sharif as Chief Executive of Punjab has directed to appoint 3500 contract Medical Officers and 2000/ senior doctors of the province on regular basis owing to pressure from a group of doctors of Punjab that they will observe strikes throughout the province, if not be regularized. Sources further underlined that after the appointment of doctors on regular basis by Chief Minister Punjab, it was also expected that the Punjab Public Service Commission will be authorized for the regular appointment of Doctors by eliminating the authority of Medical Colleges and medical institutions, while the influence of Principal in Board of Management will also diminish under this initiative. After the regular appointments of Doctors the contract teachers working in schools of the province have also pinned hopes with the Provincial Government of Punjab for their appointment on regular basis likely the doctors. It was pertinent to mention that when the medical institutions in the province were indemnified, the medical institutions were authorized for the appointment of doctors in the province and after that the role of bureaucracy has become limited regarding appointments of doctors. Regarding these concerns when Provincial law Minister Rana Sanaullah was contacted, he stated that legal capacity of Punjab medical ordinance 2003 was intact, as it has been approved by the parliament, however CM Punjab has allowed concession in rules under his discretionary powers, in accordance of which contract doctors have been regularized, however these appointments will be made by PPSC in future. Provincial Law Minister further stated that Contract system has lost its credibility and it should be eliminated, as it airs bewilderment among the Governmental employees and the Government was also seeing through into the issue to regularize the contract teachers and regarding this decision will be taken within next few weeks, he added.
