Regret. (meditation).NONE OF US CAN CLAIM a perfect record in love. We all fail and betray, even inadvertently. This is perhaps the worst pain of love, failure for which we feel culpable Blameworthy; involving the commission of a fault or the breach of a duty imposed by law. Culpability generally implies that an act performed is wrong but does not involve any evil intent by the wrongdoer. . The Magdalen, having come to love Christ after a life of selfishness, grieved forever after. Donatello shows her in old age, his fragile wooden carving furrowed with the marks of her long penance. She is literally abraded to the bone by sadness for what might have been, and yet her beauty is still luminous with hope for what is still to come.
