So your computer is not performing up to par huh It just seems so much slower than the day when you first got it right

So your computer is not performing up to par huh? It just seems so much slower than the day when you first got it right? Trust me you are not imagining this sluggishness. Overtime computers tend to slow down to a crawl. Most of the time it isn''t your fault! This slow down can be attributed to problems in something called the windows registry.

What is the Windows Registry you ask? Put simply, the registry is the control center of Microsoft Windows. Each and every aspect of your Windows computer has roots in the registry. Here is a small list of items which are controlled by the Windows Registry.

1. Startup Items - anything that starts up when your computer does has roots in the registry.

2. Shortcuts - All shortcuts to your programs have roots in the registry as well.

3. File associations - Thats right, the registry is what tells Windows that a Word documents should be opened in...well...Microsoft Word.

4. Internet Explorer Attributes - Many of the aspects of Internet Explorer and all other programs for that matter can be found in the registry as well.

Well thats enough about what the registry is, let''s talk about how to fix it! The answer can be either really simple, or extremely complex... and here''s the best part you get to pick the answer! Let''s assume your computer is indeed slow, and that you feel it is in need of a fix. Solution 1 (Difficulty Level: HIGH): OK, so your computer is slow and has strange error messages. Let''s simply take note of all of the strange problems and jot them down on paper. Got that? Great. Now lets go over to google, and enter each and every one of these error messages in followed by the term registry. For example if the error says: "Failed to load dll......" just type that in followed by registry. Many suggestions should come up, find the best one and carry out the registry change. To make changes to the registry we must fire up the Registry Editor. Go to Start --> Run --> and type RegEdit --> Press enter. Now locate the troublesome registry entry (as per the answers you found) and make the necessary changes. Now repeat this for each problem.

Solution 2 (Difficulty Level:VERY EASY): OK so you think solution one was hard? Well we agree! It most certainly is. Let''s take a look at a much simpler solution.
