Electronic and chemical research is carried on there. , Mass. -- The Global Spatial Data Infrastructure A Spatial Data Infrastructure or SDI is a framework of spatial data, metadata, users and tools that are interactively connected in order to use spatial data in an efficient and flexible way. (GSDI GSDI Global Spatial Data Infrastructure ) Association announced today that on-line registration for its 10th Annual conference is now open. The conference will be held February February: see month. 25-29, 2008, in St. Augustine, Trinidad. The theme of the conference is "Small Island Perspectives on Global Challenges: The Role of Spatial Data Data that is represented as 2D or 3D images. The deadline for submission of abstracts of papers to be presented at GSDI-10 is September 15,2007. Papers are sought that address the full range of practice, development and research topics that advance the practice and theory of spatial data infrastructure development with particular attention paid to papers that additionally address these pressing concerns: * Sustainable development Sustainable development is a socio-ecological process characterized by the fulfilment of human needs while maintaining the quality of the natural environment indefinitely. The linkage between environment and development was globally recognized in 1980, when the International Union (e.g. pressures of tourism, preservation and conservation versus land and resource development) * Disaster prevention, warning, management, response, and recovery (e.g. hurricanes, earth quakes, tsunamis, sea level rise) * Alleviation of poverty and crime * Economic development * Decreasing the digital divide including access to information technologies * Ensuring food security * Support of transportation, health and communication systems, and * Facilitating land ownership Successful submitters will be notified October 15, 2007, with full papers and posters due December 15, 2007.
