The Emmy awards were given to "People to Watch" (interview/discussion program), "MetroBeat Magazine" (magazine program), "MetroBeat TV Promotions" (program promotional campaign), and "Student Voices" (children/youth program).

"These awards recognize the outstanding achievements of local people and whole communities working together to create meaningful, high-quality grassroots television for the Colorado Front Range

'neighborhood,'" said Sheila R. Willard, senior vice president for government affairs at Comcast, and director of the MetroBeat TV project. "Our aim was to help make local TV more relevant to a larger region, and frankly more fun to watch."

Launched in November 2005, MetroBeat TV (http://www.metrobeat.tv) consists of five monthly programs that air simultaneously twice a week in 25 Denver metro communities on the municipal access Channel 8, as well as On Demand anytime through Comcast.

The project was created by Comcast in collaboration with the local Colorado Front Range communities to explore new potential uses of cable television technologies that could meet both the unique needs of local communities beyond the current television models, and increase the value of community programming to citizens at a regional level. If successful, the regional TV collaboration could be expanded to other markets.

MetroBeat TV programs have also received additional recognition earlier this year, winning a CableWorld Award for "Student Voices," Telly Awards for "Inside the Cover" and "People to Watch" and a 3CMA CMA - Concert Multithread Architecture from DEC.  Savvy Award for "People to Watch."
