, Tennessee, Virginia and the Virgin Islands, Region II boasts a dynamic membership, strong leaders, relevant professional development conferences and an outstanding recognition program. The region continues to grow in membership, professional involvement, and optimism for CTE (Coefficient of Thermal Expansion) The difference between the way two materials expand when heat is applied. This is very critical when chips are mounted to printed circuit boards, because the silicon chip expands at a different rate than the plastic board.  and ACTE.

Looking to the future, Region II has identified member benefits and services as a priority strategic activity. Emphasis is placed on developing and expanding networking opportunities, leadership training, and professional development programs. Conference attendees experience that "down home" family atmosphere characteristic of Region II conferences, as CTE professionals enjoy opportunities to network and collaborate.

The initiatives of the region's state associations highlight the response to member needs and a focus on the future of CTE:

Alabama. An ad hoc committee ad hoc committee A committee formed with the purpose of addressing a specific issue or issues, which theoretically is disbanded once its raison d'etre is finished  of retired CTE teachers attends all meetings and work sessions of the State Board of Education. This group utilizes the expertise of retired members to advocate for CTE teachers throughout the state.

Bahamas, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Electronic communication creates closer links with island associations strengthening their connection to Region II and ACTE. Leaders continue to explore expanding benefits including Techniques magazines to members.

Florida. Focusing on the postsecondary CTE graduates, Florida's All American Success Stories recognizes student accomplishments and CTE programs. These stories, highlighting the importance of CTE, are distributed to Florida legislators.

Georgia. Strong state association leadership has lit the fire for a blazing membership campaign and an outstanding increase in membership. An emphasis on legislative issues has provided added benefits for GACTE members.

KentuCky. KACTE is involving CTE professionals and supportive partners in furthering understanding among legislators at the federal and state level of the critical importance of CTE to economic security. KACTE is distributing e-updates and presenting information services See Information Systems.  and linkages on its website to all its members.

North Carolina. A newly appointed legislative taskforce and lobbyist coordinates the state association legislative efforts. NCACTE has planned and implemented leadership workshops for state association officers, committee members and prospective leaders.

South Carolina. Charleston was the site and SCACTE was the host for the 2003 Region II Conference. Region II Best Practices Roundtable and Breakout sessions spotlighted exceptional practices including the awards process, student portfolios, diversity issues, and technology. Tennessee. Reorganizing its governance Governance makes decisions that define expectations, grant power, or verify performance. Sometimes people set up a government to administer these processes and systems.  structure, TACTE terms of office now provide leadership stability and continuity. TACTE will host the 2004 Region II Professional Development Conference in Nashville in October.

Virginia. Issues and Solutions for CTE in Virginia 2004 outlines critical CTE legislative issues. Get the update on the VACTE listserv or VACTE website (www.vacte.net).

The members of our state associations have forged a bright future for CTE in Region II. Join the ACTE Region II members working to strengthen our professional organization and profession.
