Byline: The Register-Guard

Commencement exercises will be held at 2 p.m. June 8 in the gymnasium at Reedsport High School.

The featured speaker will be Jim Akre. Nathan Baumgartner, Stephen DuVal, Brittney Hague and Rachel Vandervort were named the class valedictorians.

A baccalaureate service will begin at 7 p.m. June 4 at the Assembly of God Church.

Baumgartner, the son of Richard and Elizabeth Baumgartner of Reedsport, plans to study journalism at the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities. . He's a member of National Honor Society The National Honor Society (NHS), established in 1921, is a recognition program for American high school students who show achievement in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. , band president and participated in track, swimming and football.

DuVal, the son of Michael and Tracie DuVal of Reedsport, plans to attend the University of Portland The University of Portland (UP) is a private Catholic university located in Portland, Oregon. It is specifically affiliated with the Congregation of Holy Cross and is the sister school of the University of Notre Dame. Founded in 1901, UP has a student body of about 3,200 students.  and major in civil engineering before returning to school for a master's in business. He is a member of Future Business Leaders of America, is a Boys State delegate and has participated in Knowledge Bowl. He participated in football, basketball and was a member of the track team.

Hague is the daughter of Kevin and Gale Hague of Reedsport. She plans to attend Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., and will major in psychology and minor in organizational/industrial psychology. She plans to acquire a master's degree in psychology, and then become a public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. By its nature, public relations is devoted to serving particular interests by presenting them to the public in the most  management analyst. She has been associated student body president and past vice president, is senior class president and has participated as a Girls State delegate, 41st Annual United States Senate Youth Program The United States Senate Youth Program (also known as "USSYP") is an annual competition sponsored jointly by the U.S. Senate and the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.  and United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth Delegate.

Vandervort is the daughter of Duke and Carol Vandervort of Reedsport. She plans to attend the University of Chicago or the University of Portland to obtain a liberal arts degree in media studies or communications. She is a member of Future Business Leaders of America, has participated in basketball, dance, track and the United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth Delegate and is yearbook editor and a Girls State delegate.

Two students have been named the class salutatorians for 2003: Micah Hert and Ryan Wiggans.

Hert is the son of Robert and Virginia Hert of Winchester Bay. He plans to go to Oregon Institute of Technology The Oregon Institute of Technology, also known as Oregon Tech or OIT, is an accredited university in the Oregon University System, and the only public institute of technology in the northwest United States.  in Klamath Falls where he will major in radiological science. Wiggans is the son of Bill and Cynthia Wiggans of Reedsport. He plans to attend Oregon State University Oregon State University, at Corvallis; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1858 as Corvallis College, opened 1865. In 1868 it was designated Oregon's land-grant agricultural college and was taken over completely by the state in 1885.  in Corvallis and major in computer engineering. He is a member of Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society and Model United National and has participated in Knowledge Bowl and pep band.
