Redline Networks Helps Randstad Speed PeopleSoft Delivery for 350 Branch Offices; Redline Decreases Download Time and Reduces Server Load for Professional Staffing Firm.

CAMPBELL, Calif. -- Redline Networks, Inc., a company that designs and manufactures network appliances that maximize the performance, flexibility, and scalability of Web-enabled applications, today announced that Randstad North America has deployed its E|X line of enterprise application processors to optimize Web site performance and reduce server load.

Randstad North America's nationwide network serves 350 branch offices of Randstad's U.S. operation. The company's locations are connected to headquarters via frame relay links at speeds of 56-64 kilobits per second. Randstad agents at these sites perform time-card entry, payroll, matching talent to positions, invoicing, and billing over the company's wide-area network, using the Web-enabled version of PeopleSoft Front Office. Randstad uses the Redline solution to alleviate speed difficulties experienced by Randstad agents trying to access the PeopleSoft applications across their WAN.

"For remote users in the Randstad branch offices, access to the PeopleSoft Front Office application after the Redline deployment was more than 25 percent faster," said Dave Ritchie, Randstad's manager of hardware systems. "We went from getting a lot of user complaints to almost none. With the load better balanced and CPU utilization reduced, we are now in a position where we could easily eliminate one of our three Web servers, reallocating it to another project rather than buying another new server."

The Redline E|X 3250s sit in front of three BEA WebLogic Web/application servers. Remote branch offices are connected across the frame relay WAN via a T3 circuit. Since the initial implementation, Randstad has expanded the use of the Redline appliance to accelerate other applications, such as the Outlook Web Access. In addition, Randstad plans to use the E|X 3250 for a new e-business application.

"Support of an 'Active-N' architecture was a key factor in deciding to go with Redline," added Ritchie. "With 'Active-N,' we can use multiple Redline devices in parallel, which allows us to scale the system as our business grows. This gives us a much higher comfort level than an active-passive approach. In addition, feedback from the network engineering staff indicates that Redline's user interface is much more intuitive, with hundreds of statistics that can be organized in ways most useful to us. This gives us the ability to probe deeply into the performance of our servers and applications."
