Redline Networks Extends Leadership in Web Application Delivery; Release 4.0's Fully Integrated Third-Generation Cache Helps Organizations Simplify Data Center.

CAMPBELL, Calif. -- Redline red·line
v. red·lined, red·lin·ing, red·lines

v.intr.
1. To refuse home mortgages or home insurance to areas or neighborhoods deemed poor financial risks.

2.
Networks today announced the general availability of release 4.0 with fully integrated third-generation (3G) Cache(TM). The new release allows organizations to extend the full potential of caching to sophisticated enterprise applications previously served by less flexible first- and second-generation approaches. Redline's third-generation approach to server side caching provides organizations utilizing enterprise applications - PeopleSoft, SAP, Siebel, Oracle, and those based on Websphere - with an easily deployable, high performance, fully-integrated solution that dynamically modifies cached content.

3G Cache enables Redline to further simplify the data center by eliminating the need for additional application servers, Web servers, and other Web tier point products. Previous generations of cache solutions could not effectively discriminate between cacheable and non-cacheable content Dynamic information that changes regularly or for each user request and serves no purpose if it were cached. Web pages that return the results of a search are non-cacheable, because their contents are unique almost all the time. Contrast with cacheable content. See Web switch. . With 3G Cache tightly integrated with the Redline OverDrive (processor) Overdrive - An Intel Pentium processor which fits into a socket designed to accomodate an Intel 486, or into a special upgrade socket on the motherboard. (TM) user API (Application Programming Interface) A language and message format used by an application program to communicate with the operating system or some other control program such as a database management system (DBMS) or communications protocol. , IS Managers now have the ability to differentiate between cacheable and non-cacheable data and treat the cacheable data with customizable parameters.

"By seamlessly integrating third generation caching into its existing platform, Redline is again positioned to define the next generation of application front ends (AFE's) for Web applications," said Lynn Nye, Founder and President, APM (Advanced Power Management) A programming interface (API) from Intel and Microsoft for battery-powered computers that lets programs communicate power requirements to slow down and speed up components. See ACPI.

Advisors. "Redline again delivers on its promise and continues to pressure the existing server load balancing The fine tuning of a computer system, network or disk subsystem in order to more evenly distribute the data and/or processing across available resources. For example, in clustering, load balancing might distribute the incoming transactions evenly to all servers, or it might redirect them  vendors, like F5 Networks (Nasdaq:FFIV FFIV Final Fantasy Four (video game) ), into making catch-up product releases."

With 3G caching, Redline is extending its technology leadership position by delivering a complete, integrated solution optimized for sophisticated enterprise Web applications. The Redline platform offers compression, server load balancing, SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) The leading security protocol on the Internet. Developed by Netscape, SSL is widely used to do two things: to validate the identity of a Web site and to create an encrypted connection for sending credit card and other personal data.  termination, application security, Redline OverDrive(TM), and third-generation caching in one appliance and delivers up to 1Gbit/sec of outbound data. Test results show a 60 percent reduction in latency and a dramatic increase in server capacity.

"Adding third-generation integrated cache to our platform and combining this offering with Redline OverDrive and our other unique capabilities, takes Redline to a new level of payoff for the critical Web tier between the browser and the data center," commented Craig Stouffer, vice president, marketing, Redline Networks. "With Redline's 3G Cache, we extend the cache value proposition into new territory and continue to execute on our promise to reduce the sheer number of devices and network upgrades required for the successful deployment of Web applications."
