Redbaiting?I appreciate the comments of Matthew Rothschild in the April Editor's Note Editor's Note (foaled in 1993 in Kentucky) is an American thoroughbred Stallion racehorse. He was sired by 1992 U.S. Champion 2 YO Colt Forty Niner, who in turn was a son of Champion sire Mr. Prospector and out of the mare, Beware Of The Cat. Trained by D. on the death of Paul Sweezy. Indeed, we have lost a towering intellect and an inspiration for several generations of activists. However, I must take exception to your characterization of Sweezy as "one of the giants of leftwing thought and progressive journalism." He was not just a major figure in leftwing thought; he was a Marxist. It is both disrespectful dis·re·spect·ful adj. Having or exhibiting a lack of respect; rude and discourteous. dis re·spect to his memory and a disservice
to all of us to neglect to mention this most significant fact. We are
obviously in a period of rightwing ascendancy where "liberal"
means "left" and nary nar·y adj. Not one: "Frequently, measures of major import . . . glide through these chambers with nary a whisper of debate" George B. Merry. the term Marxist is uttered in polite society for fear of offending or worse. I am surprised that The Progressive, of all magazines, would bend to this form of redbaiting.
