Red alert sounded in Assam as flood situation turns grim.

Majuli (Assam) July 3 (ANI): Heavy rain in catchment areas of the Brahmaputra River Brahmaputra River

An alert has been sounded in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sonitpur, Jorhat and Majuli.The National Disaster Rescue Force has been called for rescue operations.

In Majuli, an embankment was breached at Nayabazaar flooding Jengraimukh, Fuloni, Halodiati, Kherkotamukh and Nayabazaar areas.

In Lakhimpur, a 100-metre stretch of geo-fabric embankment was breached at Matmora affecting nearly 200 villages.

East Dhakuakhana, Matmora, Kherkota, Dangdhara, Dimoruguri, Kekuri and Dholpata were also submerged by floods.

Over 30,000 people have been displaced in the upper Majuli area. Offices, schools and other establishments in Majuli have been inundated in·un·date
