Red River Valley Potato Growers Association.


The Red River 1 River, 1,222 mi (1,967 km) long, southernmost of the large tributaries of the Mississippi River. It rises in two branches in the Texas Panhandle and flows SE between Texas and Oklahoma and between Texas and Arkansas to Fulton, Ark. It then turns southward, enters Louisiana, and crosses SE to the Atchafalaya and the Mississippi rivers. In Texas it flows rapidly through a canyon in semiarid plains, but later in its course it waters rich red-clay farm lands (whence the name Red). Valley Potato Growers Association, East Grand Forks Grand Forks, city (1990 pop. 49,425), seat of Grand Forks co., E N.Dak., at the confluence of the Red and the Red Lake rivers; inc. 1881. In a spring wheat, livestock, and farm area, the city has grain elevators, state-operated flour mills, and plants that process and distribute meat, dairy products, sugar beets, and potatoes. The area was settled by French fur traders who camped at the river junction and called their campsite La Grandes Fourches [Fr., Minn, welcomes new communication director, Kristin Larson of Apple Valley, Minn. Larson graduated from North Dakota State University North Dakota State University, at Fargo; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered and opened 1890 as North Dakota Agricultural College, achieved university status in 1960. The agricultural experiment station is there, as well as research centers in biochemistry, pharmacy, and plant pathology. The university has branches throughout the state, including an institute of forestry at Bottineau. in May with degrees in mass communication and speech communication. She will be responsible for maintaining the Web site, monthly publications and overseeing communication for the organization via newsletters and media relations.
