Red Lobster initiates comprehensive program to help safeguard environment.

Recognizing its responsibility as a restaurant industry leader, Red Lobster has initiated a broad environmental campaign consisting of recycling, education and financial grants.

Key elements of the program include:

* Waste management -- Through the recycling of paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and other materials used at the company's seafood restaurants, Red Lobster will eliminate or recycle more than 17 million pounds of trash annually from its more than 620 restaurants throughout North America. Additionally, as part of the effort, Red Lobster eliminated paper napkins, placemats and napkin rings chainwide in March 1991, thereby removing more than 4.7 million pounds of paper from the wastestream. This one move alone will also save about 40,000 trees from having to be harvested annually for paper production.

* Education -- A classroom program for 75,000 elementary school teachers and nearly seven million students and their parents was initiated in 1991. Called "Earth to Kids," this environmental awareness program includes an environmental audit of the family household, and features a take-home activity for students to help their families have a more environmentally friendly household. Red Lobster also offers educational programs for middle and high school students and their teachers to promote a better understanding and awareness of our natural resources.

* Environmental funding -- Red Lobster has long supported conservation efforts. The company continues its funding of various environmental causes, including the preservation of wetlands and estuaries.

In addition, Red Lobster works with its seafood suppliers in more than 30 countries around the world to ensure responsible seafood harvesting and proper management of marine resources.
