Red Hat launches "Wide Open Magazine" with March issue.


Red Hat, Inc. (Raleigh, NC), a company that offers open source and Linux enterprise systems, applications and services, has begun the publication of Wide Open Magazine with a March issue.

The new title will be produced six times a year and an annual subscription costs $60. A charter annual subscription costs 535.

The magazine is being targeted to open source administrators, developers and enthusiasts in both the enterprise and customer markets. Red Hat said the new title will focus on "practical Linux knowledge and creative features" and each issue will feature the latest version of the Fedora Project The Fedora Project is the community responsible for producing the Fedora Linux distribution, along with a variety of other projects. It is the result of a merger between the Red Hat Linux (RHL) and old Fedora Linux projects in September 2003, and is officially sponsored by Red Hat,  so subscribers can have access to current Linux technologies under development. It will also feature "both technical information as well as thought-provoking editorials about the future of open source," Red Hat said.

Content will include technical how-to articles, news on certified See certification.  applications and hardware, and features on a range of current open source topics. The first issue includes: Fedora A free distribution of the Linux kernel from Red Hat along with a variety of open source utilities. Technical support is not provided for any of the Fedora distribution, only for Red Hat's full fee-based subscription of Linux.  Core 1 Plus updates; installing Fedora Core 1; Fedora configuration tools; RPM package maintenance; security at Red Hat; the 2.6 Linux kernal; and, setting up Samba samba

Red Hat cto Michael Tiemann Michael Tiemann is Vice President of Open Source Affairs at Red Hat Inc, as well as President of the Open Source Initiative. He previously was the Chief Technical Officer of Red Hat.  said "creativity and collaboration will be two of the themes that wit] be carried throughout Wide Open Magazine. We want readers to develop a real affinity for open source and its potential."
