Red Gate's SQL log rescue gives users ability to undo individual transactions.

Red Gate Software has released a new product called SQL Log Rescue that enables undo and redo of individual SQL Server database transactions, protecting users from lost data and eliminating expensive downtime.

"We're offering a $295 tool that can potentially save an individual DBA's bacon," says Simon Galbraith, Red Gate's marketing director. "It enables you to recover from potentially awful situations while preserving data that has just been entered - which could save your job in the event of a disaster."

SQL Log Rescue examines both backup files and live transaction logs to ensure full data recovery. It makes it simple to investigate SQL Server log files containing millions of transactions, and identify problems using powerful filtering and searching tools. Users can view details of all transactions, including those involving text and image data, and undo and redo them with perfectly scripted SQL. If a table is accidentally dropped, for example, SQL Log Rescue will recover all the data in seconds.

"Log Rescue fills a gap in SQL administration," says Art Remnet, a senior consultant/DBA for Sichun Consulting, Inc. "I was able to completely rebuild one of our databases and recover exactly what I wanted from another log."

SQL Log Rescue is available as a standalone product or as part of a discounted bundle with SQL Backup, Red Gate's software that provides compressed and encrypted backups for SQL Server databases. The combination of the two products makes it almost impossible to lose data, providing a form of job insurance for developers and DBAs.
