Recycle blend software beats prime properties.

Advanced Blending Technologies (ABT) LLC in Perrysburg, Ohio, is a new firm that markets proprietary technology for characterizing recycled resins' molecular weight, MW distribution, and other properties. The technology is licensed from Hancor Inc. in Findlay, Ohio, which extrudes single-wall corrugated pipe from recycled resin blends. Its product substantially exceeds the stress-crack properties of competing pipe made with virgin resin. Headed by Chris Ernst, former Hancor head of engineering, ABT assists a customer in deciding what MWD and other properties are desirable for a particular application. ABT's OptiMiser software provides the most economical formulation of ingredients to achieve those properties. In this way, recycled and wide-spec material can be combined to create consistent blends that exceed the properties of virgin resins and generate cost savings of 10% to 35%.
