Recursion Software Partners with JBoss to Deliver Middleware for Intelligent Mobile Applications; Platform Extends Enterprise Applications to Embedded and Wireless Devices.

FRISCO, Texas -- Recursion Software, Inc., a global provider of software development solutions, announced today that it has entered into a partnership with JBoss, a division of Red Hat. Under the agreement, Recursion Software will focus on the development and certification of the VOYAGER Edge(TM) platform with the JBoss Enterprise Middleware Suite (JEMS). The VOYAGER Edge development platform includes a run time environment and the VOYAGER Wizard(TM), which currently utilizes the JBoss Rules business rules engine and enables the creation, deployment and management of intelligent mobile agents. JBoss certification of VOYAGER Edge provides developers using JEMS with the ability to easily transition from developing enterprise applications to intelligent mobile applications using a tested, proven development platform.

Recursion Software is extending the messaging capability of VOYAGER Edge to the J2EE software stack by integrating with the Java Messaging Service (JMS). This will enable intelligent mobile agents to publish and subscribe to JMS, while moving around the network from node to node and device to device. Intelligent mobile agents running within VOYAGER Edge will be able to participate and originate two-phase commit transactions that propagate to J2EE resources as well as other edge devices. This will be done through both the Java Transaction Service (JTS) API as well as thru SOA-based transactions APIs. VOYAGER Edge intelligent mobile agents are exposed as Document Literal Web Services using the VOYAGER Wizard, and will also communicate through the WS-Coordination, WS-AtomicTransaction and WS-BusinessActivity APIs supported by the JBoss Transactions.

Infrastructure requirements for VOYAGER Edge include at least intermittent network connectivity, computing platforms that can run the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and have VOYAGER Edge installed. PDAs and smart phones will have a lightweight VOYAGER Edge client installed for hosting and/or accessing mobile agents, dependent on the device specifications. VOYAGER Edge uses the CORBA (IIOP), Web Services (SOAP), J2EE (RMI-over-IIOP) and XML-RPC industry standards to implement the remote communications and mobile agent capability. It readily integrates on diverse platform configurations due to the ubiquity of Java and the JVM.
