Nearby is Kill Devil Hill, where the Wright brothers experimented successfully (1900–1903) with gliders and airplanes.  (CV 63).

F/A-18C Hornet squadron VMFA-314 surpassed 1,150 flight hours in one month, January, aboard John C. Stennis (CVN 74).
