Reconnecting with our waterfront: before anything else we were first a river town.


Louisville was founded as a river city and in recent years has reclaimed its river heritage by developing its extensive, 90-acre waterfront.

When ground was broken on Waterfront Park Waterfront Park can refer to any of a number of parks on a river or other body of water, including:
  • Tom McCall Waterfront Park along the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon.
  • Louisville Waterfront Park along the Ohio River in Louisville, Kentucky, which opened in 1999.
 in 1994, no one knew the development would receive both popular and critical acclaim. The first portion of the park, approximately 55 acres between the Clark and Kennedy bridges, has hosted more than a million visitors per year since its dedication in 1998.
