 the firm's owner, Mark Bigge.

The vehicle--mobile thermal perimeter security system, or TIPSS--is a Humvee truck, equipped with infrared imagers, night vision and closed-circuit TV, Bigge explained. These sensors provide an extended line of sight, enabling TIPPS to see out to 10 kilometers, Bigge said.

"With the 30-foot mast mast, large metal or timber pole secured vertically or nearly vertically in a ship, used primarily for supporting sails and rigging. The mast is as old as sailing vessels, and the oldest sailboats depicted (those of ancient Egypt) had a small mast placed forward and  fully extended, it can see over hills," he said. "It gives you the ability to see others, without them seeing you."

To get a broader picture of a given area, various vehicles equipped with mobile TIPPS can be linked in a network, Bigge noted. Information can be sent--encrypted for secure communications--from vehicle to vehicle, or to the command center, via satellite transmission. A network of three vehicles, including sensors, costs less than $3 million, he said.
