Recent research on nurse employment decisions.


Economists at Iowa State University Academics
ISU is best known for its degree programs in science, engineering, and agriculture. ISU is also home of the world's first electronic digital computing device, the Atanasoff–Berry Computer.
 have recently completed survey work and an analysis of the Iowa Registered Nurse License Database to quantify Quantify - A performance analysis tool from Pure Software.  the influence of wages, benefits, family responsibilities, commuting time, and family income on the decisions of Registered Nurses to work in the nursing field and to maintain their licenses.

The work, "Wages, benefits, hours, commuting time, and license renewal for Iowa Registered Nurses," was completed in September 2006 and is available online at http://www.econ.iastate.edu/research/webpapers/paper_12 681_06030.pdf

This work follows a 2005 study, "Expected wages and other labor market labor market A place where labor is exchanged for wages; an LM is defined by geography, education and technical expertise, occupation, licensure or certification requirements, and job experience  factors affecting the labor force decisions of nurses in the state of Iowa," which is available at http://www.econ.iastate.edu/research/webpapers/paper_12470_05029.pdf

In addition to work on the labor force decisions of nurses, Iowa State University economists have also recently conducted studies on hospital utilization hospital utilization The usage rate of a particular health care facility; a group of statistics referring to a population's use of hospital services , market areas, and patient choice and the local economic importance of health care enterprises.
