Rebels' last yell runs out of time.

Byline: Steve Mims The Register-Guard

ST. LOUIS - UNLV UNLV University of Nevada, Las Vegas  was the latest team to try to slow Oregon's pace, but once again the tempo tempo [Ital.,=time], in music, the speed of a composition. The composer's intentions as to tempo are conventionally indicated by a set of Italian terms, of which the principal ones are presto (very fast), vivace (lively), allegro (fast),  and the victory went to the Ducks.

"I thought Oregon obviously controlled and dictated for much of the 40 minutes," UNLV coach Lon Kruger Lon Kruger (born August 19, 1952 in Silver Lake, Kansas) is an American basketball coach. "I thought their quickness out front got us on our heels early and we didn't play like we felt we've been playing."

The Rebels came into the game winners of nine straight games and they held opponents to 62.7 points per game during that stretch with their pressure defense, but Oregon snapped that streak with a 76-72 win over UNLV.

"We definitely feel like we didn't dictate and establish the identity that we have had all year," UNLV guard Michael Umeh said. "They just came out, made some runs, knocked down some shots, got us on our heels a bit. We definitely feel like we didn't play Runnin' Rebels basketball."

They started a fast-paced game, and every turnover we had turned into a point for them."

UNLV tied the game for the last time at 31-31 when Kevin Kruger completed a four-point play with 3:20 left in the first half, but Oregon then scored six straight points to take a 37-33 lead at halftime.

Oregon scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 45-33 lead and eventually built the lead to 58-40 when Tajuan Porter Tajuan Marquis Porter (Born March 9, 1988) is a sophmore guard at Oregon. "We've done that before," UNLV's Curtis Terry said. "We always know the game is never over. We would have been in a different situation if we would have played hard for 40 minutes instead of just the last two minutes. We just didn't have time left."

The Rebels felt they needed just a bit more time.

"I would give the world for two more minutes," forward Joe Darger said.

Maybe even less.

"We just fell about a minute short," Kevin Kruger said.
